Rhyme and Slang

***

Rhyme and Slang, derived from Cockney rhyming slang, is the music of Heather Cowan. Never having thought of herself as a vocalist, the seed was planted after recording backups for Ryan Adams, who noticed her “small” speaking voice, while recording bass at Electric Ladyland. All songs are considered experimental, and recorded/produced by Heather.

Born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana, she now lives in Harlem with a family of 4 from Santo Domingo. Occasionally, you will hear the vocals of the daughters, Antonella and Mariel Diaz, ages 6 and 10. Currently, she plays bass in the band, Widower.

I really enjoy listening to Heather Cowan’s music. Though not a big name as yet, she has that mysterious quality in her voice which really excites you and makes you want to hear more. Rhyme and Slang sure is something to look out for and her small daughters also join in the vocals now and then! Being the bass player in the band, Widower, Rhyme and Slang will have no lack of fans with her strong and heavy love for rock!
